Philip Seymour Leaves Drug Rehab

Oscar-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman has completed a detox program for substance abuse, including snorting heroin, and remains in place to star in the indie drama “God’s Pocket.”

TMZ.com first reported the thesp going to a rehabilitation facility for 10 days and checking out May 24. Hoffman told the site that after using heroin for a  week or so, he checked himself into a detox facility on the East Coast after having been clean for 23 years.

Ironically, Hoffman portrayed a drug addict who kills a heroin dealer in the 2007 independent drama “Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead.”

On the opening day of this year’s Cannes film festival, producers announced that Hoffman would star in John Slattery’s movie“God’s Pocket” with Richard Jenkins, Christina Hendricks and John Turturro co-starring.

Drug outbreak

Lindsay Lohan's move from the Betty Ford Clinic to Cliffside Malibu late Wednesday has been in the works since a visitor of a fellow patient brought a prohibited substance into the facility and distributed it to several girls, multiple sources tell FOX411's Pop Tarts Column.


But Lohan, one insider insisted, did not partake. “She heard what was going on and was really upset by it and wanted to get out,” the source said. “She’s been doing really well detoxing and didn’t want to be around the temptation of more drugs… Lindsay also wanted to be at a place where she would receive more one-on-one treatment time.”

We’re told the drug brought in was Oxycontin. Another mom, whose daughter was at Betty Ford at the same time as Lohan, told us she had to transfer her 20-something daughter to another facility as she was one of several girls given a drug, which she could not confirm was Oxycontin. “She was afraid of a relapse," the upset mother said.. "Some of those who took it have now left voluntarily."

Girls undergoing rehab

GIRLS as young as 13 are undergoing rehab for alcohol addiction.

Esther Foundation executive director Patricia Lavater, a former Australian of the Year finalist, said the clientele at her drug and alcohol recovery program had changed in the past five years from drug users in their 20s to girls with alcohol problems aged just 13.

She said the issue had become so bad that primary school-aged children would soon have to be targeted by strategies promoting responsible drinking.

"The girls are getting younger, they are coming in at 13 or 14 and have been drinking for a couple of years already," Ms Lavater said.

"I don't find it shocking, I find it tragic; it mirrors where our society is heading. I don't really understand why they think it's getting better because we have parents ringing us every day with stories of their children drinking.


"Eventually we will need to start going out to primary schools if we want to prevent this.

"We would have to go back to eight and nine-year-olds and start working with them."

One girl in treatment at the foundation, Amber, told STM Magazine her first taste of alcohol was at age six when a whole bottle of Bacardi Cruiser was given to her by an adult.

Her heavy drinking started in year 7, fuelled by incessant bullying because of her dark Mauritian skin.

Her drinking also led to cannabis abuse and sometimes she would finish a whole bottle of vodka on her own.

My husband, the alcoholic

With her husband out of an addiction clinic and sober for three months, our new columnist hoped their lives were back on track. But it's harder than she expected. The writer is anonymous

As I pulled into the sweeping drive of the Priory to collect my husband after he had completed the 28-day recovery for addiction programme, I was elated. We hugged, cried and did all the things that friends, lovers and film stars do when they are reunited.

This is the beginning of something new, wonderful and untainted, we thought. A future where all the major creases and folds have been steamed away and we can continue on solid, even ground.

Three months have passed and my husband is still sober. It feels like a miracle, and I am incredibly proud of all that he has achieved. Things, however, have been far from plain sailing. On reflection, the last few weeks have been the toughest in our relationship.
